Welcome to the Qeen Conch Hatchery
A place where we conserve, educate, and investigate
The Queen Conch Hatchery is located at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium Park. Here, our focus lies in the conservation and study of the Queen Conch (Lobatus Gigas) to support their survival and growth. What is a Queen Conch?
We utilize sustainable practices to ensure the health and vitality of these remarkable marine creatures.
Our mission is is thus not focused on raising conchs for consumption, but rather on fostering their growth and understanding their ecological significance.
A journey into Caribbean culture
The Queen Conch plays an integral role in Caribbean culture. Long has it been a staple protein, from an easy-to-collect (slow moving) snail. We want to protect this heritage and ask you to join us in our efforts to protect and preserve the queen conch for future generations.
Planning a trip to the Curaçao Sea Aquarium Park? Come vist us! One of our marine experts will give you an engaging behind the scenes look and feel into what it takes to conserve a marine species
"I’ve visited the hatchery at the Curaçao Sea Aquarium a few times now, but it still amazes me how these creatures start out so tiny and transform into such breathtaking shells. The dedication and effort they put into the Queen Conch here is truly inspiring."
Your visit matters!
You get inspired by our work during your visit, but the same thing happens to us. The work is hard, the hours are tough, but the response and praise we get plays a big part in our motivation to keep going.
When we out-plant conchs back into the wild this feeling also overwhelms us. We know we take baby steps, but that is the only way we can look forward and keep going
All income generated from the tour, is directly used towards our work in the hatchery!

Behind the scenes at the hatchery
We have a small but dedicated team of experts ranging from biologists, aquaculturists, lawyers and more
Our crew is constantly maintaining the tanks wherein the raised conchs are housed.
We have to get creative when it comes to funding. Raising conchs is not cheap. Make sure to check out some of the conch merchandise we offer.*
